THE ZEN OF COLD READING AND SCENE STUDY

Beginning on the foundation of a cold reading, the work focuses on the power of listening and really “using the other actor” in the scene. Liberating the actor from self consciousness and making him/her responsible to the story, the actor finds the freedom to really be “in the conversation”. The actor is then challenged in successive classes to move into more intensive scene study where the process will continue to yield exciting and truthful results.

A maximum of 10 students per class insures that the actor works for an extended period of time, insuring breakthroughs in every class.

The classes are offered at reasonable rates promoting the virtues of work and dedication to constant progress.

From the beginner to working professional, James’ work will continue to instruct and inspire each actor to get to the next level.

James Villemaire works one on one with the actor in preparation for auditions for film, television and theater. His clarity and experience will give you the confidence to help book the job!

James Villemaire has been acting for the past 25 years, working steadily in film and television. He has worked opposite John Goodman, Bette Midler, Nathan Lane, Sarah Jessica Parker, Robert Patrick, Steve Buscemi, Roy Scheider, Edie Falco, Chris Noth, Howard Stern, and Academy Award winning actresses Jennifer Connelly, Olympia Dukakis, Mercedes Ruehl, and Marlee Matlin. James has co-starred in such television shows as ‘Sex and the City’, ‘Law & Order’, ‘Sherri’, ‘Hope & Faith’ as well as major roles in films for HBO and TNT. He has been teaching acting for the last 12 years. His students have landed jobs in countless network and cable TV shows, major motion pictures and independent films, as well as plays on Broadway and Off-Broadway.

Last year, he co-directed a feature film entitled ‘A Jersey Christmas’ and wrote and directed a pilot that is in development with ’20th Century Fox’.

The class is really great. James creates an environment where the actor can learn and practice the tools of the trade. The class teaches the essential techniques for the new actor as well as the seasoned pro. I’ve taken most of the acting classes in New York, including Stella Adler, William Esper, to HB Studios, and no class has been as indispensable as this class has been for me.
